Students of the Month
January 2012
Kindergarten Leah Melendez
For many, a new year means a new beginning. But there is a child in Kindergarten who has been on the right track all along. Since day one of school she has been trying to be the best student that she can be. She has so many special qualities that make her stand out: she is kind, loving and helpful. Her happiness is contagious, as you can’t help but smile when she smiles. She also takes pride in her work. I know all of her tasks are completed with love and care! May she continue to care about school and friends for the rest of this year and for many years to come! Congratulations to the Kindergarten student of the month for January, Leah Melendez!
1st Grade Aaron Nunez.
As we bring in the New Year, and we make our New Year’s resolutions, this student definitely has a goal in mind for this year.
He is determined to do well in school and to spread love among his classmates. This student is kind, polite and well mannered; he is very responsible and he is a child of God. Everyday this boy comes in and warms up our classroom with his smile and positive attitude. I see a bright future for this student. Congratulations! to first grade’s Student of the Month, Aaron Nunez.

2nd Grade Eva Ventrella,
Faith, service, academics-- these words exemplify second grade’s January student of the month. Anyone who meets her knows that after “good morning” the next thing out of her mouth is “do you need anything?” Whether it’s to help a friend or a teacher, she is always willing to be in service to others. And when you are in service to others, you are a shining example of faith. All you need to do is look into her eyes to see this faith. She has faith in the goodness of all which comes from having faith in God. Her quest for knowledge is insatiable. She is always eager to learn something new. She is so willing to admit a mistake or an error because she knows that is the path to excellence. Faith, service, academics, the next logical thought is Eva Ventrella, second grade’s student of the month.

3rd Grade Alberto Ramos
How do I select a student to be Student of the Month? It’s about some “Do’s” and one “Do Not.” The “Do’s” are: Do be Respectful, Do be Responsible, Do be Helpful, Do be Kind! The “Do Not” is: Do Not Give Up! So the choice for January SOM was simple, because this student always does what he needs to DO and DOES NOT GIVE UP on any difficult task. He is an exceptional model student for any month! Congratulations, and keep up the good work, Alberto Ramos.

4th Grade Adrian Peguero
4th BBBBBBBRRRRRRRRR! It’s cold outside, good thing in 4th grade we have someone with a very warm heart! This student is a huge help to his classmates and is very encouraging to everyone. He always tries his best, even when things may be a little tough. He is always smiling, even when it is so cold outside, and he brings great warmth and happiness to our classroom. Congratulations to 4th grade student of the month, Adrian Peguero!
5th Grade Hanna Gebre-Michael
This student displays an exceptional ability to learn rapidly and adapt quickly to changing situations without any complaint. The class has enjoyed and benefited from her encouragement toward a positive learning environment. Her fine attitude and spirit of cooperation are reflected in her excellent work. This student is an asset to any teacher, in any subject, and at any school. The fifth grade is proud to have selected -Hanna Gebre-Michael as January’s Student of the Month.

6th Grade Destiny Jean-Michel
Dear Family and Friends,
Today, HNS had a Student of the Month assembly. Can you believe that I was chosen to represent the 6th grade class for the month of January? Mr. Joven and Ms. Robinson stated some really nice facts about me. They stated that I was, “smart, a strong leader, eager, and excited about learning.” They also stated that I was, “respectful and admirable.” Admirable means inspiring admiration or approval; deserving of the highest esteem or admiration. Can you believe that these nice facts were stated about me? I was so shocked when they called my name because there are times when I talk in class and do not agree with classmates. Mr. Joven and Ms. Robinson explained to the audience that I am young and always ready to learn and positively change the things that need changing. I try really hard to be good and I see now that my dedication and hard work is paying off. As I got up to receive my award, I did so with pride. You see, that is what a Holy Name student does; he/she walks his/her head held high and with pride. Thank you for this honor and I will make sure to continue on the path to greatness.
Love,
Destiny Jean-Michel
7th Grade Caroline Serrano
Funny, Funny, Funny is the word I use to describe this student. This SOM always manages to make me laugh as I shake my head at all the distinctive things she says and does. As teachers, it is quite refreshing to have a student that can keep your spirits up when the day is a bit chaotic. I have to say, although they can drive me crazy, I am fortunate to have students in my class that always make me laugh. However, besides being so humorous, this SOM is also on target with her academics. She works hard to achieve academic success. She’s eager, determined and responsible. She is always willing to assist me with any task at hand, especially organizing my desk. She is definitely a blessing and an asset to 7th grade. Thank you for always being you, smart, quirky, funny, and extraordinary, Caroline Serrano.
8-1 George Conde
This is the time of the year when all the students are excited. Their acceptance letters are here and the anticipations are high, but for this student waiting is a reward. He is a kind, polite, caring person. His generous efforts exceed the limits. Who types vocabulary words and gives it to their friends to make copies. “NOT YOU”!
Well this young man has worked very hard to succeed, and that he has done. His great efforts have paid off. 8-1 doublely congratulates January’s SOM not only for being our SOM, but also for his acceptance into one of the most prestigious boys high school, Xavier. He is on his way to a bright progressive future. Good Luck!
Congratulations! Our SOM for January is George Conde.

8-2 Anthony Procel
This student may appear to be very shy but he stands out. He is noticed because of his excellent demeanor. He is kind and quiet. This year he has made a conscience effort to do better in his academic career and his wonderful attitude is just one of the many things that makes him such a terrific young man! In Latin, his name means praiseworthy and I think that it is most fitting this month, since he is 8-2’s January Student of the Month! Congratulations ANTHONY PROCEL, keep making strides in your academic career.
