APRIL STUDENTS OF THE MONTH

Kindergarten  Noah Pereyra

A seed was planted in September and now in April it has blossomed into a brilliant flower.  This child was so meek and mild when I met him.  He seemed unsure and he always questioned himself.  As the school year progressed, he was sitting up taller and his hand kept going up more and more.   He can now read anything that is put in front of him. I am truly amazed by his growth as a student!  Congratulations to the April student of the month for Kindergarten, Noah Pereyra.

It has always been said that April Showers brings May flowers, but in class 2-2 the flowers have started to blossom starting with this student. She is truly a ray of sunshine that walks into our classroom no matter how gloomy or how many showers there are .She is always ready to work and she does it with a big SMILE on her face. There are so many adjectives that can describe this student such as Dedicated, Inspiring, Honest, Respectful, Helpful and Responsible to name a few. She really makes it a pleasure for me to teach each day. Class 2-2 would like to bestow the honor of AprilÕs Student of the Month to our very own ray of Sunshine! Congratulations and Happy Birthday! To class 2-2Õs SOM Nia Vasquez.

3rd Grade  Eleanor Lewis

Gentle breeze, springtime shower,

Ray of sun, blooming flowerÉ

We celebrate April as National Poetry Month, and so we honor a student who inspires poetry, Eleanor Lewis!

Fourth Grade  Christian Fontanez

One of the best things about the fourth grade is that there are many nice people to spend the day with.  One of these nice people is our student of the month.  He is a young man brimming with positivity and concern for others.  He comes to school each morning with quiet determination to do and be his very best.   The care with which he treats his classmates is matched by the care with which he handles all his academic tasks.  He never fails to do excellent work!  With so much going for him, he is bound to be successful. We congratulate this boy and wish him well. Our student of the month for April is Christian Fontanez.

5-1 Sarah Kelly

It was not so long ago this student was so terrified of that famous subject called ÔMath.Õ Ahh, but before you can learn your properties, multiplications and divisions, exponents, decimals, and fractions; she had turned the math light bulb on. With hard work and determination she overcame her fear and is presently holding a 90 average in Math and her other subjects are just as exemplary. She is a true follower of President ObamaÕs slogan:     Yes, I can

Yes, We will, Yes she did.

Class 5-1 is elated to have Sarah Kelly as AprilÕs Student of Month.

5-2   Nathanael Benoit

5-2 SOM is reliable, honest, well-mannered, hard working student. He has good working habits and a positive attitude towards school. This young man has a good heart. He can always lift up your spirit with a spiritual comment. The one I liked the best was when he saw the sun shinning on my hair and he said, ÒGod is smiling down on youÓ. I looked at him with a big smile and said, ÒThanks, I really needed thatÓ. Congratulations to Aprils 5-2 SOM, Nathanael Benoit.

6-1 Sandra Williams

This student is someone with a unique sense of self.  She is a young lady who can be easily spotted in class because she possesses one of the biggest and brightest smiles in the sixth grade.  This SOM has distinguished herself by her attentive participation and her excellent work habits.  SheÕs an all around wonderful young lady whoÕs not afraid to speak her mind.  Her school and family can be very proud of her. Congratulations to Sandra Williams!

6-2   Eugene Clark

This student is an excellent role model for this class.  He is a diligent worker and is very well mannered.  He is also mature and always handles himself like true gentleman in school. This student also brings deep insightfulness during class discussions which in turn motivates others to think for themselves.  His eagerness for learning is a wonderful asset to our class.

This monthÕs SOM Award goes to Eugene Clark.

7-1 Jamilex Montas

Once upon a time there was a little girl that got on a plane and came to the United States. Her first stop was New York and here is where she has remained. I am glad her journey led her to New York and to Holy Name School. When I first met her, she could not say my name because she spoke very little English. What a transformation! Like the season of spring, she brings newness, brightness, and continuous rays of hope for a better tomorrow. There were times when she slipped and stumbled, but now I truly see that her feet are planted firmly on the road to success. AprilÕs SOM is a wonderful young lady that enjoys helping others and being friendly to all that do not get on her nerves. Her grades are soaring and she is 100% ready for 8th grade. I wish her the best and congratulate her on being 7-1Õs SOM. Keep up the good work, Jamilex Montas.

7-2 TYLER RODRIGUEZ

As we draw closer to end of the school year, it is becoming a bit difficult to choose a student who stands out from the rest in his own way. I have to say, although they drive me insane, they are all special in their own way. However, April's student of the month has been such a pleasure to teach. I enjoy him as a student, as well as a person. He is always able to make me laugh. He always has a hilarious story to tell me that just doesn't make any sense to me. I have seen him grow from a shy individual to a person not afraid to ask questions, participate, and simply be himself. He is respectful, hardworking, helpful, and determined. His motivation is his mother, who makes sure he doesn't skip a beat in relationship to his academics. I am so very proud of my April student of the Month. Now you can stop asking me every month if it is you, because this month it is, congratulations Tyler Rodriquez.

8-1 TYERRA DICKENSON-PORTER

It is almost the end of the year and many 8th graders are just now starting to grasp that time management is one of the magical keys to a successful life. The ability to manage time allows an individual to live a well-rounded life. This last quarter, one young lady has amazed both her parents and me; she has taken the initiative and taken the reins of her own life. She doesn’t need to be constantly reminded that her homework is due or that her chores at home need to get done. She is one of the few that balances her schoolwork and extracurricular activities without help. She just gets it. Even though it has not been easy, she never complains. We are all very proud of this young woman and know that because she gets it, she will definitely do it. She can accomplish anything she puts her mind to and I know we will see great things in the future from April's SOM. Congratulations Tyerra Dickerson-Porter, 8-1's April Student of the Month.

8-2 Zachary Qui–ones

Wow, itÕs been one heck of a ride.  ItÕs the month of April.  Eight months of preparation, hard work and dedication.  WhoÕd have thought that this year we wouldÕve survived?  I sure had my doubts.   Guess what? You made it!  Some eighth graders had it tough this year but by Grace of God they made it through.

One young man in particular, had a pretty tough school year. However, he seemed to take it in stride and not give up.  He quietly took on his work, his punishments, even when it was not his fault, and he seemed to always brighten the end of our day by saying a joke here and there, just so we could all get through the day.   He was always concerned for his friends and from time to time heÕd come to me for advice so that he could then mentor them.  You gave me a sign of hope for this eighth grade class. Yes, you reminded us that God has a sense of humor and smiles on us often.

You fell asleep in my classes, you cried in my classes, you cracked jokes in my classes, you played your guitar in my classes, you grew spiritually and emotionally in my classes and you learned that a man is not weak because he cries and shares his feelings, instead he becomes stronger, wiser and can learn to show compassion as Jesus did.   Finally, you survived my classes.  I learned from you as much as you learned from me.  I am grateful to have been your friend and teacher.  Congratulations!
